Fashion Week Survival

Fashion Week Survival: hmm

Three wise women once said "I'm a survivor. I'm gonna make it. I will survive. Keep on survivin." Still don't know? They just sort of performed at the Superbowl... {cough Destiny's Child cough}. To survive the most stressful yet exciting time of the year in the fashion world, a few things are of crucial importance. First and probably most imperative, the bag. In my case - it's the 3.1 Phillip Lim Satchel I bought myself a few weeks ago. This will change throughout the week so an eye popping clutch and so on, but you know what I mean. What would fashion week be without a leather baseball cap (this one's from ASOS), crossing my fingers everyone else leaves theres at home. A pair of classic but oh-so-cool pumps (Alexander Wang) and then sneakers (Lanvin) for when you get blisters (guaranteed) and are running in-between shows. Long days lead to oily faces, no ones perfect guys - bring in the oil absorbing sheets. Why Perrier you may ask? Because water just doesn't cut it when your in need of a good ole thirst quencher. Though now that I think of it, there's always a beverage sponsor at Lincoln Center so maybe I'll leave this one at home. I don't even want to think about the number of people I'll be bumping into and saying hi to at the shows, so clean smelling breath is a must...hello new best friend (Take 5 gum). Karen Walker sunnies, duh. Camera, double duh. Bright red Tibi suit, hell yes (I'll be wearing this to the Tibi show). Good luck to all, mainly me.

Outfit | White

Wearing: Rag&Bone Jeans | BCBG Blazer - Similar | H&M Shoes - Similar | ASOS Baseball Cap

Winter white inspiration round two - it can be done. I took a break from being sick today.. scratch that, I'm totally still sick but the fashion world doesn't stop for me (and I wouldn't expect it to). So, I'm out and about at showroom visits and meetings all day in an effort to prep for fashion week while feeling under the weather. I figured if anything, a little all white dressing would keep me going for the day (a.k.a constantly worrying about spilling my tea or coffee all over myself). By the way, can we just discuss the Superbowl Beyonce last night? She actually shut it down, but really.

Almost Here

Wearing: Vince Leather Pants | H&M Sweater (in stores now) | ACNE Boots | ASOS Rings

This is possibly the worst timing ever, I might have strep throat and it's 4 days before fashion week starts! I don't really have much to say because I've been trying to get better all weekend, drinking all kinds of tea and at least 5 cups a day. Any quick home remedies for a sore throat guys? Ugh!

Denim Checks

Wearing: Current/Elliot Jeans | Marc by Marc Jacobs Shirt | Vintage Blazer - Similar | ASOS Baseball Cap | Alexander Wang Pumps

Denim on denim is never overkill in my opinion, and I think most you can agree. The outfit inspiration behind the above was simply me wanting to bring out the green in the plaid using the green in my new wang pumps. The obvious choice would be all black and probably something leather, but I was feeling rather spunky yesterday (which meant not being afraid of a little color for me). Don't worry though, Sunday I'll be posting an all black outfit again {blarg}.

Front Slit

Wearing: J Brand Jeans | Alexander Wang Pumps | She Inside Sweatshirt | ASOS Baseball Cap

J Brand hits the nail on the head with these front slit wax skinny jeans that I really can't get enough of. I attempted to slit my own jeans in the front after seeing this style in Elin Kling's Nowhere collection a while back...but it was an epic fail. So happy I found this awesome pair and can't wait to wear them more. These are also my new wang heels, how cool is the green?
Sorry I've been MIA this week - I've been dealing with some personal things :/ Anyway, it's a gorgeous day in NYC which is a great change from the freezing cold weather - so happy to not be wearing a jacket!

On Site Dressing

Wearing: ASOS High Gloss Pants | BarIII Sweater | Zara Heels | All Saints Beanie

When dressing for a construction site, one must consider the following: Something to stand out, like a reflector or let's say... ridiculously glossy black pants. Oversized knits would be useful to keep warm when working outside and to hide any cuts or bruises from falling in the mud. A hard hat, or in my case a beanie - for "protective" gear. And last but not least, a great pair of shoes for when operating heavy machinery. [Sarcasm at its best and my new friend Jerry] PS- I revamped my ombre a bit at Arrojo Studio the other day (if you go ask for Mary)!

PS: you can still buy pieces from my vintage collection here (I suggest the White Mesh Shorts, Ivory Shearling Jacket, and denim cut-offs).

ATTN: New Yorkers, the Vintage Twin pop up shop is in its LAST DAY - definitely stop by if you haven't been yet! Info here

KENZO

Wearing: Kenzo Sweatshirt | ASOS Boyfriend Jeans | Jeffrey Campbell Booties (c/o Ashbury Skies) | Spell & the Gypsy Cuff

You might recognize this Kenzo sweatshirt from last fashion week - as seen on some of my favorite editors and fashion influencers. I usually don't like to be late in the game when it comes to wearing a piece that has already gone viral, but I just couldn't resist. I've been lusting over sweatshirts ever since the first leaves fell this year, from Kenzo to Balenciaga to Phillip Lim - they all do it right.

In the Army

Wearing: ASOS Overalls | Zara Jacket (in stores) | F21 Necklace (in stores) | Rachel Roy Loafers

Couldn't you picture this being my uniform if I was in the army? The ASOS leather overalls would be perfect for protecting my well-moisturized skin from scrapes and bruises, and the jacket simply... looks right. Ok, so maybe it would have to be the type of army that took on a Black Friday sale, but still. I want to hear about everyone's Black Friday and Cyber Monday finds - so do share!

Btw, these pics are from when it was a bit warmer out, clearly.

Big Red Beanie

Wearing: Sandro Leather Jacket - Similar | Marc by Marc Jacobs Vest | Work Custom Pants | Urban Outfitters Beanie | Topshop Boots | Calvin Klein Gloves | Zara Bag

Is it just me or did this weekend (or even past week) seem like NYC was literally put on "pause" for a few days. Everything was just so quiet, empty, and dark. I've never been so grateful for lights and crowded streets - the mindset of a true New Yorker. The other day I was checking out ASOS's newest campaign with muse Charlotte Free. I wanted to share something I heard her say because for some reason it really stuck out to me. She was discussing fashion and said, "its the last art form that has so many possibilities.. everything's been painted, everything's been sculpted, but fashion.. you can really make anything of yourself." Some people will never understand why we love fashion so much, and don't see it as an art-form like I do.

UES

Wearing: IRO Jacket | Equipment Blouse | ASOS Jeans | Rachel Roy Loafers

Been spending a little too much time uptown recently because of the blackout, but I honestly can't complain. It's so beautiful up here by the park - and the shopping isn't too bad either. I feel pretty helpless though and like I should be doing more than just sitting around waiting for Con Ed to get their act together - hopefully by tomorrow night we'll have our power back. I went downtown to my apartment this morning and uy, it was a whole new world down there. Empty streets, nothing is open, pitch black everywhere... kinda scary. So proud of everyone for staying strong though, go us.

Rebecca Minkoff: 3 Ways

Look 1: Rebecca Minkoff Jacket & Bag | ASOS Dungarees | Rachel Roy Loafers
Look 2: Rebecca Minkoff Jacket & Bag | James Jeans | Theory Tee | Alexander Wang Heels
Look 3: Rebecca Minkoff JacketBag | LF Skirt - Similar | American Apparel Crop Top | Zara Booties

When asked to style 1 bag, and 1 jacket, 3 different ways - I was of course up for the challenge. I'm obsessed with this leather sleeve jacket and even though its red, has turned out to be very versatile. The bag is adorable too, and perfect for when I'm going out at night. From the time I started blogging until now, I've watched Rebecca Minkoff grow her brand and expand in ways unimaginable for such a short period of time. The team over at RM has grabbed social media by the horns, and have jumped on the blogger ship more than other brand I know/work with. They truly know what it takes... not to mention the designs and products have become better and better with every season. The RM runway show was one of my favorites this past fashion week - and even the newly launched jewelry is right up my alley. ALERT: Rebecca Minkoff is a brand to watch.

Never Hide

Wearing: Summer Mizera Vintage Top | American Apparel Jeans | Rachel Roy Loafers | ASOS Beanie

So, I've never been one to sport anything high-waisted except for a pair of trashed denim shorts. What's the point? They make my tush look large, my belly button gets pinched, and my confidence level goes from "yea I'd blog this" to "don't want to get out of bed in this" (usually). Well, this has all changed with a few great finds and just the RIGHT pair. Recently, I found these amazing American Apparel high waisted jeans that squeeze you in, in all the right places...perfection. Another pair I've been swooning over thanks to my friend Ali are these J Brand jeggins. As long as the material is thick enough and made by someone who gets the FOLA (fear of large ass) - everything will be a-ok.
