Cole Haan Style Corner: Week 1

Wearing: Cole Haan Johanna Boot | Vintage Overalls

As a New York native, and now a New York City dweller I’m pretty sure I’ve got the necessary street style to survive in this city, down pat. So, when Cole Haan approached me about a collaboration to show why their Fall boots are the perfect choice for a city girl like me… there was no hesitation. Hence the first of three boots, from day to night. I’m obsessed with the Johanna Wedge Boots and I bet you didn’t realize they are waterproof too! Or, maybe me jumping in the puddles fearlessly kind of gave that one away. There’s nothing more survival city savvy than a cute boot that can bear the shoe-destroying weather.

Wearing: Cole Haan Johanna Boot | Necessary Clothing Jeans I Cole Haan Shearling Jacket

Taking these boots into the night – or just to a less casual fiesta, I paired high wasted acid-wash jeans with a crop top and Cole Haan’s shearling jacket. It’s Penny Lane meets, well, me. Even though these boots seem super casual, when this jacket came off I could have been standing in the middle of Le Bain dancing my bubble butt off.

Sandy Relief

Being without power for a few too many hours, I hadn't realized the actual affect of Hurricane Sandy (besides what I was witnessing myself). I walked outside this morning in Soho in shock of the debris, water, and smell - but most of all, the quite and emptiness felt throughout the NYC. After relocating uptown, and thanks to the internet/getting in touch with friends again, I now realize how severe this horrific storm actually was. All over New York (and nearby cities) families and friends have lost their homes and need our help. I have already signed up to volunteer in nearby neighborhoods starting tomorrow - and you can too. If you can't physically be here, please help my donating to the American Red Cross here. Or - you can simply text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Sandy Relief. It's crazy to think about this city we feel so safe in, go through something as devastating as this. I've seen the videos and have witnessed the harsh flooding at my apartment building door... this was no joke and I am very glad it's over. Stay safe guys, xo.

Park After Dark

Wearing: Reformation Jumper | Amarcord Vintage Jacket | Cole Haan Loafers (c/o)

The other day The Reformation had a sample sale at their lower east side store - and it was a success to say the least. I picked up this little number, which I couldn't believe was marked down to only $50. I've been pretty hooked on phonics jumpsuits lately which goes hand in hand with my love for overalls. These new Cole Haan loafers are pretty great too, and really really comfortable. Loving the mix of oxblood red and purple shades in contrast to the autumn trees, ah.

Oh, Sandy

Wearing: Minusey Sweatshirt | LF Pants | Daha Vintage Boots

Sandy can't stop me from blogging, well, maybe she can. Last night around 8:30pm we lost electricity, as well as our lively hood (or so we thought). 40% battery on my Iphone meant soon there would be no Instagram, Twitter, GOOGLE for crying out loud! Looking outside our windows on Grand and West Broadway - all we could see was the water rising over 3 feet and a blackout throughout lower Manhattan. I guess this storm wasn't too hyped up, it was the real deal. Sandy came and went overnight, but left a disgusting smell in her path, and loads of crap for us to clean up the next day. On a more serious note, Sandy has truly devastated so many people in New York and surrounding communities. It's crazy to think that homes have been washed away... It's our job as fellow New Yorkers to help out those in need. This hurricane has directly affected thousands of people that are now left with nothing. The power is still out (and may be for a few more days) so for now I'm posting up at my boyfriend's moms place uptown 'gasp'. It's crazy how many simple things we take for granted, like lights - duh. The candles were pretty nice though and romantic too. So for now, here's a quick outfit post to keep you guys from killing me while I'm here on the Upper West Side. I'm not sure leather and beanies are the norm up here.

Btw, how great is this Balenciaga esqué sweatshirt - love getting the look for less, don't you?

Halloween

Wearing: Spandex Bodysuit | Topshop Ears | Topshop Boots | ExtremesFX Contacts

Here it is - my costume from last night's Halloween party! Wish I took some pics on a real camera, but unfortunately I only have a few from my Iphone. Anyway - how crazy are these contacts!? I was so excited to wear them considering I put a lot of effort into getting them (they're prescription too). It was so much fun freaking people out and just staring at them all night. A cat costume is so typical so I tried to edge it up a bit by making side cuts in the bodysuit, and going with the Topshop rhinestone ears and boots. For my makeup: I used Mac lipstick in Verve, eyelashes from Sephora, and a drug store brand liquid eyeliner for the details.

Calm Before the Storm

Wearing: WGACA Overalls - Similar | Topshop Jacket - Similar | Rachel Roy Loafers | By Malene Birger Bodychain

I'm always really sad when I can't link to the actual product I'm wearing on my blog for you guys - like this jacket. Last year I wore this amazing faux fur and leather Topshop jacket one too many times, and wish they remade it again.. but, there are some pretty great alternatives at a really affordable price available now on their site.

So if you live in NYC, then you remember Hurricane Irene a few months ago... and you most likely remember how hyped up the storm was, and how little it actually hit us. Which brings to me to what our entire city is doing today - preparing for yet another extremely hyped up hurricane, Sandy. Forgive me if I'm doubting how much this will actually affect us this time. But just in case, I stocked up on my favorite candy, soup, movies, ice cream, cookies, and comfy sweats for a few days at my boyfriends place. Oh and wine, too.

TGIF

Wearing: Forever21 Pants | Vintage Vest - Similar | Topshop Booties

TGIF - who's ready for Halloween weekend to start!? I'm dying to see what everyone is going as this year... At first, I was thinking well obviously I'm going as Gangnam Style's Psy but then I forgot about the reason girls like me love Halloween so much. There's no denying it, I love an excuse to put away all my man-repellant fashion and dress in those... "man-getter" ways. Here's a hint for my costume: contacts from this website are being used. Stay tuned because I will definitely be posting a ton of pics this Saturday night on my Instagram account @weworewhat.

Top Knot: throwback

Wearing: Vintage Blouse - Similar | Alexander Wang Shorts | Topshop Boots - Similar

I seriously love these pictures a lot - and wanted to share them again with you guys. From the scenery, to dramatic-vintage feel, it's just very cool. I never usually wear my hair up, let alone in a top bun, so this was a nice change for me. What do we think? Pretty refreshing not having to worry about your hair.

Those Days in BK

Wearing: Mcginn Blazer | Cheap Monday Beanie | Urban Outfitters Plaid Shirt | ASH Booties

It's always a nice getaway when venturing into Brooklyn for whatever excuse comes my way. This time it was a visit to the Nifty Thrifty HQ that took me on the L train to Bedford Avenue - the avenue of the oh-so-cool and oh-so-Brooklyn. I had the chance to check out the thousands of pounds worth of vintage clothing Nifty Thrifty has in their archive, and you bet there's an awesome collaboration coming up with us two in the near future. BTW - if you haven't yet, sign up here. I topped of my day with a salted caramel macaroon from an oh-so-brooklyn-cafe Toby's Estate.

Village Style

Wearing: Village Style Sweatshirt - Similar (ASOS) | All Saints Jeans | Topshop Boots | Celiné Luggage Tote

When I came across this sweatshirt at Village Style in the East Village, I immediately pictured Balenciaga and Topshop having a baby... for $15. And then I noticed that ASOS obviously already created something EXACTLY like it (here). The era of the fashionably acceptable sweatshirt has begun, and we're all about it. Standard crew necks that used to appear to me as 'bum-like', and printed sweatshirts with all sorts of weird graphics have been given a new reputation thanks to designers like Markus Lupfer and Phillip Lim.

The Jett

Wearing: Topshop Pants | Reformation Sweatshirt | Modern Vice Jett Boot (c/o) | Amarcord Vintage Jacket (in stores now) | Topshop Hat (in stores)

I'm having a crazy love affair with my new Modern Vice Jett booties and I think my Topshop shoes are catching on... They're the most perfect oxblood red, with pointy toes and gunmetal hardware. I'm pretty sure these boots were named after Elton John's famous song Bennie and the Jets which makes them even more desirable, duh. I also love these pajama like Topshop plaid pants that reference to my most recent post Truly Tartan

Truly Tartan

I've always pretty much been 'mad for plaid' (forgive me for the cliché) but it feels like the ancient trend has come back this season in a whole new way. What I like to refer to as Tartan style has been in the front of my mind while shopping around recently. I'm still looking for the perfect pair of plaid pants and think that these April, May pants might be the winner. Besides the average pant, tartan skater skirts have been appearing on all my favorite sites lately and even some plaid-printed sheer maxi skirts too. This year - plaid comes with a huge dose of vintage along with femininity, layering, and color. Shop some of my favorite picks above...
