Fashion Week Survival

Fashion Week Survival: hmm

Three wise women once said "I'm a survivor. I'm gonna make it. I will survive. Keep on survivin." Still don't know? They just sort of performed at the Superbowl... {cough Destiny's Child cough}. To survive the most stressful yet exciting time of the year in the fashion world, a few things are of crucial importance. First and probably most imperative, the bag. In my case - it's the 3.1 Phillip Lim Satchel I bought myself a few weeks ago. This will change throughout the week so an eye popping clutch and so on, but you know what I mean. What would fashion week be without a leather baseball cap (this one's from ASOS), crossing my fingers everyone else leaves theres at home. A pair of classic but oh-so-cool pumps (Alexander Wang) and then sneakers (Lanvin) for when you get blisters (guaranteed) and are running in-between shows. Long days lead to oily faces, no ones perfect guys - bring in the oil absorbing sheets. Why Perrier you may ask? Because water just doesn't cut it when your in need of a good ole thirst quencher. Though now that I think of it, there's always a beverage sponsor at Lincoln Center so maybe I'll leave this one at home. I don't even want to think about the number of people I'll be bumping into and saying hi to at the shows, so clean smelling breath is a must...hello new best friend (Take 5 gum). Karen Walker sunnies, duh. Camera, double duh. Bright red Tibi suit, hell yes (I'll be wearing this to the Tibi show). Good luck to all, mainly me.

COMME des F*DOWN

Wearing: The Cut Tee | Work Custom Pants | Zara Jacket | Alexander Wang Heels | 3.1 Phillip Lim Bag

This look I wore the other day defines what I loved so much about visiting Stockholm, Sweden this past summer - the fashion. Skinny pants, pointy toe heels, a casual tee, and long sleek coat (with a little New York edge). Crossing my fingers that I'll get to travel back to that amazing place again this summer for Stockholm Fashion Week. But first, NYFW... ah so soon!

Never Enough

Wearing: Topshop Overalls | Rachel Roy Loafers | 3.1 Phillip Lim Bag

I've been asking myself lately if my obsession with overalls is just a phase. Then, I looked at some old baby pictures and realized I've been wearing these bad boys my whole life. So of course when I came across this velvet pair at Topshop I couldn't resist - you can never have enough in my opinion! I especially love this pair because I can definitely dress it up to wear out at night (as well as the obvious casual wear above).

FYI - I recently came down with a bad cold and most likely won't have too many blog posts for you guys over the next few days.. boo you winter.

Minimalistic

Wearing: Zara Pants | Aritzia Top | Helmut Lang Jacket | 3.1 Phillip Lim Bag | Gypsum Spike Bracelet | All Saints Beanie

I'm laying in bed right now - slightly burnt and slightly damaged from last night's party/gambling in the Dominican Republic. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - this has been incredible vacation and it will be hard to leave this perfect weather. By the way, I hear it's snowing in NY (hah). Max (my also burnt boyfriend) says hi too and wants you to know he's killing it at the casino. Here's another outfit post from before I left - I checked out Aritzia recently and I'm very impressed with.

Just Add Tights

Wearing: Zara Dress - Similar | Commando Tights | OASIS Booties | Helmut Lang Jacket | Phillip Lim Bag | All Saints Beanie | Vintage Sunnies (from American Apparel)

I bet we all do the same when it comes to switching from our summer to winter wardrobes - we either send clothing home to the rents, sell it, maybe even store it somewhere besides our tiny NYC closets. Yes, I do most of these myself, but I've recently started saving pieces from my summer wardrobe that I can "just add tights" to. Btw, I was inspired by a current Nifty Thrifty sale for the title of this post. Speaking of, make sure you sign up before next week because there is something coming up that you do NOT want to miss - maybe a collection of vintage clothing curated by me, or something like that.....

Scandinavian Style

Wearing: Work Custom Pants | Equipment Button Down | Ali Golden Jacket | Phillip Lim Bag | Rachel Roy Loafers | All Saints Beanie | Spell and the Gypsy Cuff

Tapping into my Scandinavian style roots (a.k.a a week spent in Stockholm), I've been loving oversized jackets and longer silhouettes on coats. Inspired by the likes of Elin Kling, Sandra Hagelstam, and anyone gracing the pages of Stockholm Streetstyle - exhibit A: this oversized wool coat with skinny leather pants fit right in. To me, scandinavian style is defined by minimalism, length, and edge. And yesterday, I proudly purchased a new Helmut Lang coat, thats simply... so cool. Here it is: Helmut Lang Moleskin Jacket. You can expect this up on my blog in an outfit post later this week (or Sunday).

THE WKND

Wearing: Zara Skirt & Sweatshirt | Commando Tights | Ash Wedges | 3.1 Phillip Lim Bag

Post Thanksgiving day food coma I'm a little weary of "baring all" - which is why I know I can turn to my commando tights to save the day. I'm telling you guys, I will swear by these tights up and down that they are the best stockings out there. Not only are they the perfect shade of black opaque, but the tummy control top shows no lines and hides all. If you don't believe me, go try them yourself. Hope everyone has a happy digest.

Recap 101

After recapping the runways on Style.com last night, I couldn't help but share my favorite with you. 3.1 Phillip Lim has done it again, covering more than a few recognizable trends on the runway in the SS13 collection from NYFW. Graphic tee's (with some New York pride), leopard prints, pattern blocked sweatshirts, plaid and mesh in one pant, trashed denim, florals, mixed prints blouse, and pointed toe cut-out boots. Did I get it all? Hold on to your leopard printed garments kids, because they're hanging in there for Spring (as seen at CĂ©line and Stella McCartney Resort13 and now here in 3.1 Phillip Lim). It's wearability with an attitude this year and I can't wait to see how the fast fashion retailers we know and love present these designer threads at an affordable price.

New outfit posts coming soon...
