Sandy Relief

Being without power for a few too many hours, I hadn't realized the actual affect of Hurricane Sandy (besides what I was witnessing myself). I walked outside this morning in Soho in shock of the debris, water, and smell - but most of all, the quite and emptiness felt throughout the NYC. After relocating uptown, and thanks to the internet/getting in touch with friends again, I now realize how severe this horrific storm actually was. All over New York (and nearby cities) families and friends have lost their homes and need our help. I have already signed up to volunteer in nearby neighborhoods starting tomorrow - and you can too. If you can't physically be here, please help my donating to the American Red Cross here. Or - you can simply text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Sandy Relief. It's crazy to think about this city we feel so safe in, go through something as devastating as this. I've seen the videos and have witnessed the harsh flooding at my apartment building door... this was no joke and I am very glad it's over. Stay safe guys, xo.

Oh, Sandy

Wearing: Minusey Sweatshirt | LF Pants | Daha Vintage Boots

Sandy can't stop me from blogging, well, maybe she can. Last night around 8:30pm we lost electricity, as well as our lively hood (or so we thought). 40% battery on my Iphone meant soon there would be no Instagram, Twitter, GOOGLE for crying out loud! Looking outside our windows on Grand and West Broadway - all we could see was the water rising over 3 feet and a blackout throughout lower Manhattan. I guess this storm wasn't too hyped up, it was the real deal. Sandy came and went overnight, but left a disgusting smell in her path, and loads of crap for us to clean up the next day. On a more serious note, Sandy has truly devastated so many people in New York and surrounding communities. It's crazy to think that homes have been washed away... It's our job as fellow New Yorkers to help out those in need. This hurricane has directly affected thousands of people that are now left with nothing. The power is still out (and may be for a few more days) so for now I'm posting up at my boyfriend's moms place uptown 'gasp'. It's crazy how many simple things we take for granted, like lights - duh. The candles were pretty nice though and romantic too. So for now, here's a quick outfit post to keep you guys from killing me while I'm here on the Upper West Side. I'm not sure leather and beanies are the norm up here.

Btw, how great is this Balenciaga esqué sweatshirt - love getting the look for less, don't you?

Calm Before the Storm

Wearing: WGACA Overalls - Similar | Topshop Jacket - Similar | Rachel Roy Loafers | By Malene Birger Bodychain

I'm always really sad when I can't link to the actual product I'm wearing on my blog for you guys - like this jacket. Last year I wore this amazing faux fur and leather Topshop jacket one too many times, and wish they remade it again.. but, there are some pretty great alternatives at a really affordable price available now on their site.

So if you live in NYC, then you remember Hurricane Irene a few months ago... and you most likely remember how hyped up the storm was, and how little it actually hit us. Which brings to me to what our entire city is doing today - preparing for yet another extremely hyped up hurricane, Sandy. Forgive me if I'm doubting how much this will actually affect us this time. But just in case, I stocked up on my favorite candy, soup, movies, ice cream, cookies, and comfy sweats for a few days at my boyfriends place. Oh and wine, too.
