Insta Friends

graphic by Kristyn

What began as a normal Sunday night at Goldbar, quickly turned into my first encounter with an Insta Friend... It was long overdue and much anticipated: this was a familiar feeling, one I may have felt a few years back over a Facebook friend. "OMG I can't believe it's actually you, it's about time we met!" I screamed of sheer joy at first sight. She was exactly how I imagined her to be, in all of her (for lack of a better word) fashionable glory. My acquaintance responded the same, and we bantered back and forth about how obsessed we were with each other's style. We had seen the likes, read the comments, and had screen-shot only the best for outfit inspiration.

So, shall we define it?

Insta Friend
noun
a person you are "friends" with on Instagram, but do not actually know

Now like all other terms, there are exceptions to this definition. For example, my insta friend was a mutual one I had known for a while now (since high school), and she knew me. Of course it sounds creepy, but that's social media these days. Everyday if the instagrammer chooses to do so, we are given an inside look into that persons life, as if we were right there beside them. Where they are, what they're wearing, eating, buying, and so on. So although we sort of knew each other outside the Instagram realm, we were none the less...insta friends. It happens to the best of us. We click to follow, quickly become obsessed, and suddenly feel like we really know the person! With over 48,000 Instagram followers (and counting), I'll randomly run into that girl on the street who knows what I wore yesterday and what I ate for dinner, who will think of me as a friend. And guess what, I couldn't be more okay with that.

Come on guys, let's be friends... @weworewhat

InstaWeek

So, I can officially say the first week of the new year has been a great one. I'm currently working on a ton of new and very exciting projects that I can't wait to finally share with you guys when they're ready! One of them has to do with designing a little something of my own (ahh). From a new kind of french manicure to incredible leopard by Stella McCartney (found here)and even getting to see old high school friends. InstaFootage

Raw unseen footage from the "off camera" life of... alright well it's not that serious. But, here are some pics of outfits I've been wearing when I wasn't planning on being a "blogger" and was just being Danielle. Which brings me to a point that's come up a lot lately, how/when to turn it off. Turn it off? Yes, how to put down the Iphone, resist checking Instagram, and be in the moment with friends and family. There's a time and a place people and as a fellow blogger with blogger friends, I know we can sometimes get caught up in it all. Keeping it real is what I strive for.. be organic baby.

Anyways, the first set of pics from my Iphone is from this Saturday on yet another thrifting adventure. A lot of you have been asking me the best place to thrift shop in the city, so here's a little list (I'll make a more detailed post soon)...

INSTA WEEK

Last week was ridiculous. Here's why: I hosted an event at the Mondrian Hotel in Soho, I attended a Silent Disco (hosted by Gawker), explored the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's, my grandma was rushed to the hospital (she's okay now), I celebrated my other grandma's 80th birthday, shopped for hours around Soho (well that's just normal), and my best friend's puppy went missing for over 24 hours (we found her thank god). So yea, you could say I'm ready for a new week! TGIM(monday). Never thought I'd say that.

InstaWeek

My week on Instagram included a ton of vintage and retro sunnies (as usual), some bling from YaYa Publicity, flatform oxfords, Miike Snow, 70's inspired fashion, beanies, spikes, and well - me! I've been away all weekend for my brother graduation at Michigan University so I apologize for no weekend outfit posts. Stay tuned though because I have some awesome features coming up this next week!
